The Truth About Black Star Canyon
Truth about this place is that it is a beutiful place that has gotten a bad rep. I have only been out there once but it was one of the best expierienes of my life. The rumors about the locals being mean are untrue. treat them with the same respect you wish to recieve and they will treat you well. Black Star Bill (William Studer) was the only squatter out there and he has been gone for about 6 years now. Arthur Tuttle is a born again Christian who is a very nice person. I have had the privalege of knowing Art on a personal level through his son Henry who attends my scshool and church. Art is one of the smartest people I know and is very kind. Not once has he cussed in my presence. I feel that he has been abused as a property owner and things would have turned out better if the people who had visited his area hadn't been so dumb about the things they did. Littering, shooting things, ect.

I've been confronted by Art on at least three different occasions while biking on the fire road. He threatens to call the police ,swears , and says the road is private. Last time he accused me of doing damage at Beeks place. Please tell me how my riding a bicycle on the fire road is justification for this behavior? I don't like being threatened especially since I've never once left the fire road, caused any damage to any property, or said anything other than a friendly hello to this man.
Is Art still up there? Is he the burly guy with a ZZ top type beard? If so, he's a dick. I was about to go biking there and parked near the gate but apparently you need to park about a 1/4 mile before that since near the gate is a fire lane. He barks at me that it's "real nice" that I did that so his house could burn down since I was blocking the lane. He said "don't be surprised if you get back and your car was towed". THen he started barking at some teens taking pictures that they need to pack out the trash they threw all over the place even though they didn't. I saw them pull up and started taking pictures. They didn't have any trash with them.
My buddy and I were confronted by Art on a ride this Easter. It wasn't pleasant but in defense of Art we may have been on his property. My buddy had gone down a ravine to take a look at the Bus and Art happened by. Art did some rude yelling at us, but I don't recall any cussing.

FYI, your argument may be more plausible if you at least used spell-check--(privilege)(school)--the way it stands, it is quite believable that he is the smartest person you know, but that doesn't say much in light of what may be perceived as your intelligence; therefor, one may also question your take on kindness (since they were used in the same argument).
I'm not sure that the "water bars" Tuttle built on the Black Star canyon road (spaced too close together and with an too odd of an angle to assist with water drainage, preserving the trails) support your argument either. Those bars are likely to hurt someone coming downhill on a bike, and seem to be put there merely for spite (otherwise, he would have placed safe, effective water bars on the trail)
Ive never had any "real volitile" incidents. i have run into a few people up there. First time I was on my MTB riding leasurely and got threatened to be stoned....never happened. Second time, I was taking a nature walk, taking photos for a school project, went off the trail (by 5 ft..mind you) and got verbally scolded.....Im 30 and I felt like a little kid. But no harm has ever come.
There has always been talk of the area being everything from a KKK meeting place to a meth lab.....in reality, its just a man, dealing with a buncha pin head teens, he's just getting more bitter as the years go on.....can you blame him really?
i am a new coming mountain bike rider who has been thinking of riding through black star and have been wondering if its ok im in highschool and have heard a lot of stupid things that happen there at night. Is any of this true during the day. i also don't want to be shot at by black star bill.(i hear that happens) also can someone direct me to the cool places to see that aren't illegal. i don't want art to be mad at me.ps what is this i hear about the "black star guard" and how can i meet art he sounds like a cool guy.
